NEW MUSICAL ABOUT WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH
IN PRODUCTION FOR AUGUST OPENING
New Musical Parody “God Hates Musicals” Now On Sale

Boston, MA - A new musical comedy parodying the Westboro Baptist Church is currently in production. Written by Joe Creedon (ImprovBoston) with music composed by Bryan Dunn (Second City, Improv Asylum) and lyrics by Emily Laverdiere (ImprovBoston) God Hates Musicals: A Parody of the Westboro Baptist Church is scheduled to open this August at Boston University’s TheatreLab@855 and is produced by Pablo Rojas (Improv Asylum, Catalyst Comedy) and the Ministry of Theater.

God Hates Musicals comedically addresses topics and issues surrounding the Westboro Baptist Church while it was under the leadership of its founder, the recently deceased Fred Phelps. With song titles such as “Get Gay for God,” and a vaudeville number featuring Mr. Phelps himself, God Hates Musicals is decidedly in your face comedy. The WBC is recognized as an American unaffiliated Baptist church known for its extreme ideologies, especially those against gay people. The WBC is widely described as a hate group and is monitored as such by the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center. God Hates Musicals is a rollicking, frolicking send-up of the WBC with the ultimate intention of fighting hate with laughter.

God Hates Musicals opens to previews on Wednesday August 13th and performs through Sunday August 24th, 2014 at BU’s TheatreLab@855 within the College of Fine Arts building. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through their website at www.godhatesmusicals.org.

God Hates Musicals also launched an IndieGoGo campaign currently still accepting donations. For more information about the fundraising campaign or the show visit www.godhatesmusicals.org.

Ministry of Theater is a general management and theater production company founded by Pablo Rojas that focuses on the theatrical works of small independent artists and companies. Past productions included Stories Without Roofs: Transitions and Roller Disco The Musical. Ministry of Theater currently owns and operates Catalyst Comedy in Fort Point Boston.
