Saturday Night Live is one of the greatest - and longest running - comedy shows on television. For the past 41 years, SNL helped blossom the careers of female comedy legends such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Gilda Radner, Rachel Dratch, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler - the list goes on. Now, joining the list for the 42nd season of SNL is up and coming comedian Melissa Villaseñor.

Melissa is originally from Whittier, California, and will be SNL’s first ever Latina cast member! It’s about time. She’s an incredible impressionist, stand-up comedian, actor, voice actor, graphic artist, writer, and musician. But before she got her start on the rode to fame, Villaseñor was just a teen with a passion for imitation. When she was 15, Villaseñor performed impressions of her favorite celebrities at her high school talent show. Some of her best bits include Kristen Wiig, Jennifer Lopez, Björk, Kathy Griffin, Miley Cyrus, and her personal favorite - Owen Wilson.

Melissa is no newbie to television either - she was a finalist on America’s Got Talent way back in 2011 when she was just 23. From there, the comedian started headlining stand up shows across the country. You can also catch her showing off her voice acting skills on several different shows, such as Fox’s Family Guy, Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, and Comedy Central’s Trip Tank.

Can’t get enough of Melissa on TV? No problem! She showcases her brilliant impressions on Vine, and has a heavy presence on YouTube - highlights include “The Owen Wilson Show” and her featured clips on the Mas Major Youtube Channel.

We can’t wait to see what Melissa Villaseñor brings to the table this season on SNL, alongside our other funny female favorites Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Aidy Bryant, Vanessa Bayer, Cecily Strong, and Sassier Zamata. Season 42 of Saturday Night Live premiers October 1. Good luck Melissa!
