Hey, fans of funny ladies, the delightful Melissa McCarthy hosted Saturday Night Live last night! One of my favorite moments from this year's Emmy Awards broadcast was the dénouement of the already-brilliant Best Actress "pageant," which was perfectly topped off with Melissa McCarthy's unbridled joy and look of surprise upon hearing her name called for the award, and her acceptance speech. The lady is all class and talent.
What I loved about last night's show was that McCarthy just went for it. She pulled no punches, and I love to watch her work. Hell, she even warned us in her monologue. I do think, however, that the SNL writers don't know what to do with an actress — let alone and actual comedian of McCarthy's caliber — who isn't thin. For me, I'd be happy just to listen to her give dramatic readings all night. Now I want to hear your take: What do you think about Melissa McCarthy's hosting gig? Do you think it was a perfect use of her talents — or do you think too many of the jokes hinged on her weight?
